Learning Objectives for the Recovery Coach Academy
Participants will be able to:
Describe the roles and functions of a recovery coach
List the components, core values and guiding principles of recovery
Build skills to enhance relationships
Discuss co-occurring disorders and medication- assisted recovery
Describe stages of change and their applications
Address ethical issues
Experience wellness planning
Practice newly acquired coaching skills
A RECOVERY COACH is a person who helps remove personal and environmental obstacles to recovery, links the newly recovering person to the recovery community, and serves as a personal guide and mentor in the management of personal and family recovery.
The Recovery Coach Academy (RCA) is designed for those interested in serving as a recovery coach focusing on recovery from alcohol and other drug addiction and mental health conditions. The RCA is part of the Recovery Coach Program, which includes:
Peer Learning Collaborative Calls
Continuing education opportunities
Peer leader training and support
Assistance with job placements & finding peer supervision
Professional development planning
The RCA is 30– hour, highly interactive, personal experience that allows participants to learn the purpose, tasks and various roles of a recovery coach. The RCA provides participants with skills, tools and resources vital to providing recovery support services and develops the skills needed to link individuals to the services and supports that will maintain and sustain recovery.
